Trying to get a beach body and still want party antics on the weekends? Try some of these lighter choices instead of the full fat variety.

We love to get tipsy on most special occasions these days, it makes most events more interesting and unless you are at your girl’s party you will probably be wowed by an assortment of high calorie cocktails and low in nutritional value. If I can’t tempt you to stick to water or a refreshing green tea, I might as well try to guide you to the lower calorie alcoholic drinks.

Pure alcohol contains around seven calories per gram, which makes it almost twice as fat as protein or carbohydrates. That’s why it’s important to choose your alcohol carefully, unless you want your abs to go away quickly.

Here are some low-calorie choices to consider for your next special occasion or your next “shield”.

Stick to those low calorie drinks

340 ml of light beer – 110 calories

170 ml of rum and diet coke – 65 calories

115 ml of Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay – 90 Calories, equivalent to a slice of sponge.

115 ml of dry champagne – 105 calories, equivalent to a chocolate cookie.

170ml vodka and sparkling water – 65 calories, equivalent to a Yorkshire pudding.

215ml Gin & Diet Tonic – 115 Calories

Jack Daniels (single shot) – 55 calories

Just a few of these and no more

A 5% pint of lager – 244 calories, 3 would be equivalent to a subway sandwich.

4.5% pint cider – 233 calories

Quart of 4.1% Stout – 210 calories, equivalent to a large slice of pizza.

Pint of 4.5% Bitter / Ale – 222 Calories

Don’t drink these bad boys

170ml Mud Slide – 560 calories

255 ml Mai Tai – 620 Calories

285ml margarita – 550 calories, the equivalent of an MCYDS cheese burger and small fries.

285 ml Long Island iced tea – 543 calories

340ml Piña Colada – 586 calories, equivalent to 2 MCYDS cheese burgers.

* The same goes for most cocktails filled with juice.

Surprising? Well maybe now you know what’s stopping your weight loss after a heavy drinking weekend. If you drink every weekend it can really hurt your fitness and health goals. Try some of these tips for reducing alcoholic calories.

  • If you drink every weekend, try not to take a drop during the week.

  • Do not drink too much

  • After each glass, drink water.

  • Substitute carbonated water and lemon for the soft drink.

  • Do not drink

  • Go out a little later than usual

  • Enter a little earlier

  • Don’t withdraw too much money and leave your card at home

  • Treat yourself to something you enjoy whenever you run out of it at a party, and keep trying to beat your last result to please yourself.

  • Drink non-alcoholic drinks.
